Thoughts on Hibernation

I think it's getting to be that time of the year...where everything feels too much to handle, and you just want to sleep until the flowers come back in bloom.  Because it all seems so close, but it's too cold outside to take off your coat and scarf, and when you wake up in the morning it's dark outside your window, and all you really have time for is work - even on the weekends.  So really, even though the calendar says it's just around the corner, it all feels so far far away.

So instead of trudging through the last bits of snow, you'd rather curl up in bed with some quiet music and your favorite stuffed animal and wait it out the way bears do.

You'd like to hibernate, because who needs the first few weeks of March anyway?

Or is that just me?

May Flowers

Just a little bit early this year :)
Day 12

Summertime?

So remember yesterday when I said the weather finally sounded like Spring?
Well.  I lied.
I don't know about you, but it's 84 degrees here right now (and the high was 87)!!!
Apparently we're not doing the whole "spring thing" this year.

That's okay, Mother Nature.  You're right; I don't feel like dealing with four seasons either.  It was out of style anyway.

So my roommate and I decided that since it was so hot, today was a good day for ice cream (especially since our town plays host to two ice cream places and a frozen yogurt place, plus a Rita's if you walk far enough!)

Well.  Both ice cream places were closed, and we weren't feeling the fro yo today.
And silly us, we forgot Rita's existed.
So no ice cream for us :(  BUT we did get a nice walk in, and took some different roads in and out of town, leading us to discover what we think is an abandoned church (it certainly doesn't LOOK like anybody was there praying yesterday!) and some strange little STOP Sign poetry/messages.

"Sometimes I think I hear my heart beating, but I believe it is the sound of butterfly wings"

And finally, Day 1 of my 365! :)

Day 1

So how about you?  How are you enjoying the un-seasonal weather?

I Get By With a Little Help From My Friends

It's amazing how Starbucks, a short walk, and a best friend can make everything seem a lot better.

Spring break ended today, and this afternoon I walked around campus for a while to clear my head of a few things.  In the week (and a few days) that I've been gone, all the flowers and trees have bloomed, making the campus more colorful than I've seen it in months.

Tomorrow is the last day of Winter.

Life is good.

Snow!

Yesterday afternoon, winter finally came.

That's not to say that I'm entirely happy about that fact - I live for the warm, summer days.  Winter is like this in-between time when I almost don't exist properly.
But, going outside for class today, I have to admit that the snow made everything prettier at 7:30 in the morning.

I've never been a big fan of snow - it's cold and wet, and frankly I never really enjoyed rolling around in it (at least not since I can remember.  Although there's photographic proof that at one time, I did quite like making snow angels).  It indicates winter at what I believe to be its worst.

Except in the early morning, before anyone has a chance to destroy it.  Before the 9-5ers have started on their trip to work, and before the children have come outside to play in it, and everything's just sort of coated in this white blanket.

How about you?  Are you enjoying the snow, or is it just a terrible reminder that there's still 5 more weeks till everything starts turning green again?
